Israel has called for an urgent UN Security Council meeting on 14 April 2024, wanting the IRGC, the armed wing of the Iranian regime to be declared a 'terrorist group' because of its drone and missile attacks on 13 April 2024 on it.
Let us examine the facts:
1. Since 1948 Israel has ignored a number of UNSC and UNGA resolutions, starting with UNGA 194 on the right of return of the Palestinian refugees, that today number over 5 million.
2. The Israeli state made a number of allegations about Oct 7th 2023 that have all been debunked (see the Grayzone, Electronic Intifada and The Cradle, etc)
3. The ICJ, the highest legal structure in the world has indicated not once but twice that Israel is plausibly committing genocide.
4. The numbers of Palestinians murdered by Israel since Oct 7th is now in excess of 33 000, mostly women and children, with more than 7000 missing and more than 70 000 injured. Most of the 2,3 million Palestinians in Gaza have been displaced and many of their homes destroyed.
5. Israel has destroyed all the health facilities in Gaza, a breach of the Geneva Convention.
6. tens of thousands of Palestinians are held under military law, detention without trial, with even Israeli doctors saying that the circumstances are inhumane. Military law and detention without trial has been imposed since 1967 and, with the continued exclusion of the millions of refugees, means that Israel is based systematic hostage-taking. This needs to end.
7. The almost 7 months siege has cut the basics of water and sanitation and food; Many credible world bodies have said that starvation is now a reality in Gaza
8. Many journalists, medics, academics have been murdered by Israel; most of the cultural structures have been destroyed.
9. Israel ignored the latest UN SC call for an immediate ceasefire.
10. At the very time the Palestinian resistance was considering a compromise in negotiations the IDF murdered 3 sons and 4 grandchildren of one of the resistance leaders.
11. Israel has bombed the embassy of Iran in Syria, murdering several members of the Iranian state; a breach of international law
12. All Palestinians in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza live under permanent military law and under constant threat of forced removal.
13. The state has supplied tens of thousands of rifles to illegal settlers in the West Bank who are now terrorising the Palestinians there.
In conclusion: The campaign of Israel since 1948 has been expulsion and terrorising of the Palestinians. It follows that , while rejecting the Israeli call, Israel should be declared a terrorist state.
