The UN tramples on the democratic rights of Palestinians by endorsing ‘apartheid’ and genocide– comments on the 12 Sept 2025 UNGA resolution on the ‘two-state’ solution for Palestine
On Friday 12th September 2025, the UN General Assembly passed a rather shameful endorsement of the 12th July 2025 declaration on the ‘two-state’ solution for Palestine which had been prepared by the French and Saudi regimes. We all know that the Saudi regime is a total vassal of US imperialism. So here we had a joint resolution by French and US imperialism which was now endorsed by 142 states around the world.
There are a number of important lessons to be drawn from this.
- Imperialism, except for a few contested areas, controls all the states in the world;
- Imperialism capitalism is unable to meet the democratic aspirations of the masses. In fact, the current era is based on curtailing and rolling back the democratic gains of the masses;
- In the middle of the most intense mass bombing of unarmed children, women and men, Palestinians, in Gaza City, who are literally being blown to pieces, the resolution calls for the disarming of Hamas and not Israel.The UN is not calling for the disarming of the genocidaires nor even for them to be charged, nor even for appropriate compensation and reparations for the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians murdered and injured by the genocidaires. It is calling for the respect of Israel; this means that the UN is endorsing the genocidal role of israel not only over the Palestinians but over the entire Middle East and the rest of the world where Israel is now given legitimacy. In calling for the Palestinian resistance to be disarmed the UN is endorsing a key demand of US imperialism. The UN does not even equate the resistance of Hamas with the violence of the occupying regime. It endorses the genocide against Palestinians and tramples on the right of an oppressed nation to wage an armed resistance against an oppressor. The UN thus tears up previous democratic resolutions that it has already passed.
- The resolution calls for a final solution to the refugee question and mentions by the way of a ‘land trade for peace’. It does not even call for the illegal settlements in West Bank to be removed. So how will 1967 borders work if the almost a million settlers in West Bank are not removed? Will Palestinians now be offered plots in the Negev desert? Or tiny compensation? The resolution also calls for the public services which UNRWA performs to be handed over to the Palestinian Authority (PA). We all know that the PA is a total tool of Israel and US imperialism. So this UN resolution actually endorses the ending of UNRWA, another demand from US imperialism. The resolution calls for a ‘one gun’ policy. This means that all militias will be disarmed, the masses will be disarmed. The only ones with weapons will be genocidal Israel and the PA will have a lightly armed police force. The UN resolution therefore entrenches permanent slavery and permanent genocide against the Palestinians and against anyone who dares to stand up against imperialism.
- Looked at historically, it was the UN that partitioned Palestine, paving the way for the Nakba; it was the UN that divided Korea into North and South, the same with Yemen, the same with East and West Germany, the same with South Sudan and Sudan. Division of nations and states act as tools of control over the masses for imperialist capitalist relations to continue. It follows that the UN is under the control of imperialism. It follows that the establishment of a free Palestine, of a democratic Sudan, Yemen, will only come through a struggle of the masses which has to take into account that all of imperialism will, despite their differences, unite against the masses.
- Any independent democratic development of any nation poses a threat to imperialism that is based on total domination of the world. It is why the 2011 wave of democratic uprisings around the globe posed a threat to imperialism. If Egypt, for example, was allowed to become an independent democracy, its mere example would have posed a question to all other states to follow the same path. This would threaten the domination by imperialism. This is why the Tahrir square uprisings were crushed by imperialism and their puppet Sisi installed.
- The UN resolution endorses the control of al Aqsa to be in the hands of the Jordanian monarchy. This monarchy is another stooge of US imperialism. Thus even the religious symbols of sections of the masses are not allowed to be under the democratic control of the masses.
- The UN not only endorses genocide, it rewards Israel and imperialism for the genocide by entrenching its existence and opening up unfettered ties with all states, not only in the region but also across the world. In future, any state or group can have their sovereignty invaded, or their leaders assassinated, their masses murdered off on an industrial scale, their hospitals destroyed, all their universities destroyed, many of their journalists killed at will, this is quite fine with the UN. The resolution, by implication, endorses genocide against the Sudanese, the Congolese, the masses in Myanmar and elsewhere.
- To emphasise the point, the resolution signals that when the masses organise independently and when they seek ways to arm themselves, all the imperialists, despite their differences, will unite against them. It follows that the struggle for democratic demands are not matters only for the masses on national terrain but must enlist the active support of the masses in the imperialist centres. This emphasises the need for the re-establishment of a revolutionary International of the working class.
- That South Africa and other countries launched a case against the genocide of Palestinians at the hands of Israel, while still endorsing this UN resolution, shows that the SA regime and others are complicit in the suppression of the democratic rights of the Palestinian masses. The actions at the ICJ are only due to mass pressure of the working class. If the SA government withdraws the case at the ICJ it would unmask it and lead to its electoral downfall. Thus the so-called support the SA regime for Palestinians is nothing but a election campaign to save its position at the feeding trough of the capitalist parliament. The SA government allows trillions of Rands in wealth to leave the country, every year, thereby trampling on the rights of the masses for decent housing, free education, healthcare, jobs and a living wage. The South African government is actually supporting apartheid for Palestinians, they are supporting that Palestinians get a Bantustan, they freely allow most diamonds and large shipments of coal to go to Israel; they freely allow SA citizens to go and fight in the IDF and slaughter Palestinians daily; the capitalist chatterbox, the parliament passed a resolution for the Israeli embassy to be closed but the government ignores this and rewards the genocidaires by keeping it open; this is how far the ANC government has degenerated. They have assisted and encouraged the genocidal state to act even harsher against Palestinians, knowing full well that the ANC government will keep the coal and diamonds flowing and will allow unlimited number of SA citizens to work as genocidaires in the IDF.
- The time has come to cast aside the ANC and DA. Now, more than ever is it necessary to build a new, revolutionary working class party, locally and internationally.
